Goal Zero’s Nomad Solar Panel

The other day I happened to see Goal Zero’s Nomad 7M Solar Panel. According to the website:

Nomad 7M Solar Panel For the minimalist on the go the Nomad 7M delivers an ultra-compact yet powerful solar panel that enables you to charge your handheld devices directly from its USB and 12 Volt DC charging ports.

Key Benefits

  • USB charging port
  • Compatible with most USB devices
  • 12 Volt DC charging port
  • Includes 12 Volt female cigarette adapter
  • 30% smaller than comparable panels
  • Only weighs 13 ounces
  • Pocket for devices and for cell charger
  • Compact foldable fabric case
  • Durable loops for hanging
  • 5+ year lifespan

Ok, I have to admit. The “kuil” factor got my attention. And since we purchased a portable solar radio a few years ago, this caught my eye. In the full sun it takes two hours to charge a Garmin GPS and up to four hours to charge a GoPro camera.

So I have to ask – how useful would this device be for you and under what conditions?

Actually if you look around you can find the “Nomad 7M Solar Panel” and the “Rock Out Speaker” together in a promotional package for $99.99. I have the Scout 150 Expedition Kit, I take extended tent camp – hunting trips and I don’t want to bring a generator. I can run the Goal Zero “Light Of Life” a portable DVD player, a laptop, charge my camera(s) and cell phone, walkie talkies, GPS, radio, Its all I need to be very comfortable for as long as I want to stay out. I know I sound like a shill but I assure you I am just very happy with all of the Goal Zero products Ive purchased and I would recommend them to everyone.

    KUIL may refer to:
KUIL-LP, a low-power television station (channel 64) licensed to Beaumont, Texas, United States
    Quillayute Airport (ICAO code KUIL)

I don’t know about the “kuil” factor… Goal Zero is very, very cool.

Thanks Blacky for information. Do you think the Goal Zero solar products have much use in an emergency preparedness situation?

    Kuil = cool

Many Goal Zero products can be used for emergency preparedness situations. The Extreme 350 battery is what I would recommend. It is a Lead Acid battery that can power LCD lights for 140 hours in a power outage. this battery can also charge your cell phone 120x or 70x for a smart phone which would have video or radio to stay up to date on such events. It can also power a laptop up to 7x from dead to full. I have found this extremely handy in emergency situations.

Thanks for the recommendation Stephanie. I’m going to purchase a few of their products soon and test them out myself.
