I’m sure by now you’ve seen the Proposition 8 – Home Invasion video. According to one religious group:
In what one Catholic bishop called “a blatant display of religious bigotry and intolerance,” a commercial advocating a “no” vote on Proposition 8 depicts Mormon missionaries invading the homes of a lesbian couple.
The California ballot’s Proposition 8 would restore the legal definition of marriage to being between one man and one woman. Earlier this year, the California Supreme Court imposed same-sex marriage on the state.
In the 60 second commercial, produced by the Courage Campaign Issues Committee, two missionaries knock on a door and say they are from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They tell the lesbian couple “we are here to take away your rights.”
They enter the house, take away the women’s rings, and ransack their home looking for their marriage license. Finding it, they tear it up.
At the close of the commercial, the missionaries walk away, saying “that was too easy, yeah, what should we ban next?”. . . .
The California Catholic Conference on Monday condemned the ad as “bigoted and intolerant.”
Most Rev. Stephen Blaire, Bishop of Stockton and President of the California Catholic Conference, commented in a press release, calling the ad “a blatant display of religious bigotry and intolerance” and expressing dismay any public media outlet would air it.
“The YES on 8 campaign is not about discrimination and intolerance; it is about restoring the traditional definition of marriage for the good of society and children,” said Bishop Blaire. “All individuals and groups, whether religious or not, have both a right and a responsibility to participate in a civil debate about this important issue. From the beginning of this campaign the Catholic Conference has stressed the importance of mutual respect and denounces this type of religious bigotry.”1
Here is the Prop 8 – Home invasion video.
Below is the short story that appeared on Salt Lake City’s KSL News channel last night about the “Home Invasion” video.
What do you think the opponents of Prop 8 are going to do next? Are they going to attack other religious groups if the ballot initiative passes? Or will they continue to focus their attacks on Mormons?

This is sad, but a very typical response from the gay rights movement and their supporters. The ad is indeed bigoted and a total lie. Unfortunatly this is always what they resort to, hateful and rude behavior and many thimes violence . They will not have an honest, calm, and intellectual debate useing true facts on the subject of gay marriage. They always ask for tolerance but they are never tolerant, of the views and beliefs of others. They say they want equal rights but what they want extra rights above and beyond the rights of the majority who feel that marriage should be between one man and one woman. They want to change the law to force their views on the majority and force their perverted life style to be declared acceptable.
I do not agree with the morman beliefs but I have a lot of mormon friends and I certianly admire their stand on such moral and social matters as Gay marriage and abortion. I always invite their missionaries into my home at every opportunity to share God’s word and try to get them to see the truth.
I have never met one that was anything but polite, courteous, and respectful. It is quite a shame to put forth such a lie as this add does. -
Hi Greg-I respect your views and comments concerning my post. I suppose I could have used more politically correct verbage in expressing my views. However that was not my intent. This subject is something that I feel very strongly about, and I did not want to leave any room for confusion concerning the point I was making. This political correctness that seems to be the popular rule of the times is destroying honest debate in this country. I wasn’t trying to offend with my words. I was simply stating my honest opinion and the facts as I understand them to be. However, I understand that you and perhaps others that may have voted for prop.8 may hold different views on the matter. The constitution of the US guarentees to us all the right of free speach.
Just in case I missed something in the video, let’s you and I. reexamine it together and break it down. 1. The Mormon missionaries come to the door and state that they are there to there to take the women’s rights away. Total lie? Or do you think Mormon Missionaries would say something like that? 2. Next the Missionaries barge in to the house uninvited, take their rings off their fingers, and rifle through the women’s personel belongings and find and distroy their marriage license. Total lie? Or do you think Mormon missionaries would behave like that. 3. The statement is made that prop.8 will take away their rights. Total lie? They have the same rights that you and I have concerning marriage, to mary anyone of our chooseing of the opposite sex. Or do you believe same sex couples have the right to marry each other? 4. One of the women states that the Morman church members spent $20,000,000 to pass prop.8 . They offer no data as proof of this, and frankly I don’t believe it, and I have no way to know if it is true or not. Do you consider this true and honest debate? 5. Did you happen to notice the protests staged by the Gay and lesbian comunity in California in front of the Morman churches, wich turned violent with the distruction of church property, after prop.8 was passed by the will of the the majority of Calif. Voters. Do you consider that tolerant of other people’s views and beliefs? Perhaps, you might want to reconsider your critique of my post. However if not ,I still respect your right to make it my friend. -
Thanks Greg- I think you and I can agree. Keep up the good work.
